April Club Night

Wednesday: 16 April, 2025

Time: 7pm

Venue: Fish & Game rooms, Champion Road, Richmond

Guest Speaker: Collie Taylor, on catching every major species of salmon

Collie was raised in Lyttelton, and has been fly fishing for trout since 1960 – when he was 14.  A family friend from England, who was an enthusiastic chalk stream fly fisher, took Collie with him to the Selwyn River and other Lake Ellesmere tributaries on warm summer nights; and on weekends to Lake Lyndon and Lake Coleridge.  Collie also used to bike 20kms return from Christchurch to Kaiapoi to attend Saturday fly casting lessons at The Groynes river ponds, run by Canterbury Acclimatisation Society president George Ferris – author of the book ‘Fly Fishing In New Zealand’.

Collie has been a keen amateur fly fisher ever since his teens.  One of his ‘bucket list’ goals was to catch every major species of salmon, which he finally achieved last year in Alaska, and which he will speak to us about Tuesday evening.
